This BTEC is equivalent to one GCSE at A-C. The subjects required for the BTEC are contained in the
First Class and Leading classifications:-
- First Class:- Airmanship 1, Map Reading, Basic Radio Communications, Initial Expedition Training, The Rifle (Optional)
- Leading:- (all 3 subjects) Basic Navigation, Principles of Flight, Airmanship II
BTEC Award in Aviation Studies
This BTEC is equivalent to two GCSE at A-C. The subjects required for the BTEC are contained in the First Class, Leading, Senior and Staff Part 1 classifications:-
- First Class:- Airmanship 1, Map Reading, Basic Radio Communications, Initial Expedition Training, The Rifle (Optional)
- Leading:- (all 3 subjects) Basic Navigation, Principles of Flight, Airmanship II
- Senior:- (any 2 subjects) Air Navigation, Propulsion, Aircraft Handling, Advanced Radio & Radar, Pilot Navigation, Airframes, Operational Flying, Satellite Communications
- Staff Part 1:- (any 2 subjects not studied at Senior)
Costs
The cost of the BTEC qualification will vary as the administering body, Edexcel, will set these charges annually. The costs of the awards are:
- £30 for the BTEC Certificate in Aviation Studies.
- £35 for the BTEC Award in Aviation Studies
- £17.50 to upgrade from the Certificate to the Award.
However these will be wavered for the first Award claimed and the cost will be met by the Air Cadet Organisation. There is no additional charge for this qualification as all requirements are covered under the standard syllabus training being undertaken by all the cadets. Charges are only levied by Edexcel to cover administration.
